How to Care For Your New Tinted Car Windows

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

If one of the dozens of reasons to have your windows tinted sounds good to you, what are you waiting for? Our locations in Metairie, Gretna and Covington, Louisiana are equipped and ready to tint your vehicle today, just contact a member of our team today to book your appointment. While our job of installing window tint ends when you happily drive away, that is when your job to care for the tint begins. Caring for your new professionally installed tinted windows will help with the longevity of the tint. By adding a few minutes to clean your windows during your vehicle’s regularly scheduled maintenance you will maintain:

Privacy within your vehicle for you and your passengers

Savings to keep fuel costs low by maintaining a cooler interior and assist the air conditioning.

Protection from damaging UV rays to your vehicle as well as your passengers. The interior as well as passengers inside your car are susceptible to UVA and UVB rays. However, tinting your vehicle’s windows through Mobile One Auto Sound will help keep that Louisiana sun out by blocking 99% of harmful rays.

Security by adding a layer of darker tint making it difficult to see inside a parked vehicle.

Serving the greater New Orleans area from our three locations, we work with vehicles and their owners from Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish, St. Tammany Parish, and New Orleans, to Kenner, River Ridge, Elmwood, Harahan, Terrytown, Harvey, Marrero, Madisonville, Abita Springs, and beyond to tint windows. For nearly 35 years, we have been a leader in the area, today providing premier tinting options and products from LLumar window tinting. Whether you have an M1 rating or an M5 window tint, it is important to care for the investment beyond installation.

For the first couple of days, it is important to:

Remember that vehicle window tint is applied on the interior side of a vehicle’s glass. This helps add a layer of protection from things like road debris.

Keep your windows rolled up. The tint does not settle immediately and you want to allow it enough time to set. Rolling windows down can risk peeling.

Do not try to adjust or ‘fix’ anything that looks like an imperfection. Most of the time it works itself out. If not, well you have come to the right place because we guarantee our work!

Do not go to a car wash or attempt to immediately clean your windows.

Once your tint has settled, there are a few techniques to clean the glass and make sure it stays looking great. Remember, do not clean the glass until it has settled because it needs time to cure. For aftermarket tinted glass it is important to care for your tint to prevent discoloration, bubbling and peeling.

The best way to clean a tinted window

Use a window-tint safe glass cleaner. Avoid alcohol or ammonia cleaner as it will break down the tint

Do not scrape or scratch debris off with abrasive cleaning tools or a razor

Use microfiber towels to avoid scratching

Spray the cleaner on the window and use one towel to wipe away the first layer of dirt

Using the second towel, buff off any additional streaks left from the first towel

Often, using a bucket of warm water and a microfiber sponge is the best way to really get after that level of grime that has built up over time

Seems like a lot of work? Just add it into your routine car maintenance. Going for an oil change or maybe swinging through the car wash? Set aside 5 minutes to wipe down your windows and you will continue to reap the benefits of having your vehicle’s windows tinted. It is important to note that overtime, window tint will eventually break down through natural wear-and-tear. Some variables that affect the life of your tint include:

How you care for your windows. Neglect or not using the proper technique could damage your window tint beyond repair, which would force you to start over again or lose the tint.

Amount of sunlight can (overtime) negatively impact the window tint on your vehicle. Too much direct sun exposure is never a good idea.
